The Sayulita Cure.

My friends in Buffalo, I feel your pain and I hope you will soon recover from the ravages of this apocalyptic weather. While never experiencing such catastrophic storm as the ones you are enduring, I once lived in sub-arctic northern Vermont where some winters we had to build snow tunnels to get to and from our homes, and we skiied from home to home checking in on each other.  We too lived on a large lake, and endured the massive snowfalls, the eternal melting and refreezing, icicles like daggers hanging from eaves. I too would wake up to a world of grey, greyer and greyest. Even the light coming into the windows drained the very walls and rugs of any color. That is when I would begin my annual downward spiral and begin to crave the warmth and vibrancy of southern climes once again.

Here, then, I offer a little respite for you. Come with me to the magical little village of Sayulita, Mexico, on the Pacific coast and at least feast on these sights for a few moments before facing your huge, snow-packed dilemmas. My little gift for you. And if you would like to come to Sayulita when you have dug yourselves out, I know the perfect little place for you to stay.

Dream for just a moment with me now! Winter really will end.

you've seen enough of this I know!

Quoi de neuf?...

...you might well ask (what's new?) since you haven't heard in a while... it's simple really...just very very busy working with two lovely clients and doing a lot of traveling back and forth to see my Mom across the continent...then, ahem, spending my recovery times binge-watching Gran Hotel and drooling over auction items and dreaming about Provence in the spring (you are coming with me, aren't you? I still have a few spaces open, waiting for you!!)

I'll be posting some of my design work here in the near future, as soon as things get to the stage where we can actually take photos...so excited about both projects!

Hoping all is going well for you as we swing into the new season...Fall here in the northern hemisphere, and Spring in the southern...(where we are headed in a couple of weeks with pals in Argentina! quite excited to see where my mother and father once lived in that romantic time after the war!)

this stunning clock from the late 18th C was up for auction in Paris
last week... I did not get it, although I can now bid from my
home here in California as I am registered with the

Druout Auction site so I don't have to miss any of the action!
You can register too! who needs to "go" to Paris hahahaha!

Javier, Julio, Alicia and Diego, my new best friends on Netflix!
called the "Downton Abbey of Spain" this series, Gran Hotel,

is set in northern Spain in 1904 and is addictive! lots of
intrigue, romance and class distinction. The clothes, the setting and the
gorgeous hairstyles alone are worth tracking this one down if you haven't already!

{ The Perfect Weekend }

What could be better than shopping, lunching & laughing with your daughter all Saturday, having dinner with a dear friend then topping off the weekend prowling the Alameda Flea Market/Antiques Fair with a wonderful friend you haven't seen in months? All the while with weather to die for...perfect temperature and not too sunny, not too foggy. I had such a great time... come along for some of the things we saw...

There was definitely a blue & green trend showing in the stalls... fresh greens of every hue were worked into displays, and lots of blues showed up everywhere. This is not your ordinary flea market...vendors come from all over, including Europe. Many have shops back home and the merchandising can be stunning at this market.  Or it could just be they used colors that go best with that incredible blue sky in the last shot!

Enjoy Your Weekend!

Although summer is not officially over, doesn't it always feels different when the kids go back to school and the mood changes from flip flops in the sand to new school shoes and uniforms, yellow school busses and notebooks.

For us in Northern California, however, the real summer is just beginning, as the summer chill begins to dissipate and we have warm sunny weather for a glorious couple of months, before the rains (hopefully, we are in a drought) begin for the winter.

Here's wishing you a weekend like the one we had last week... lazy mornings in our garden then a romp on the "Disneyland for Dogs" beach in San Francisco with Nicky, our little Portuguese Podengo, who ran himself silly and dug a hole in the sand to cool himself off:)

our favorite spot for morning coffee...

...with this view of our garden, newly planted with drought-resistent baby plants...

...then a trek down to the beach over the hills and cliffs...

...where we are not the only dog lovers with the same idea today!

the Pacific Ocean is usually way too cold for swimming, but today I felt
like I could dive in and swim to the Farrallons....

beautiful waves on this treasure of a beach...

and here's Nicky with Chris in the cool spot he dug for himself after running literally
a couple of miles with all the other dogs, into and out of the water, catching
balls, sticks and frisbees... you can tell by his eyes how tired he is! he slept all

the way home and the rest of the day!

Bonne Weekend!
