Waking up on a Saturday morning and heading over to Apt for the weekly market is a joy. Once there, the sights alone captivate.. flowers, fruits, vegetables, cheeses everywhere; lots of fabrics, leather goods and baskets too. I was able to poke around the village and found "La Brocante".. which is exactly that... pretty much a second hand store... but hey, this is French second-hand stuff! I also had a moment to peek into a lovely design shop.

looking beyond vegetables I spied this intriguing shop in the background! |
the wicker lounger is a little worse for wear, but at 25 euro, quite the bargain too! |
great collection of apothecary jars and etc in La Brocante |
who doesn't like to poke around in junk shops.. here you could score a Ricard pitcher for pennies! |
while at the market outside you could buy a bathtub full of dried rosebuds... |
...or the perenially beloved Basque striped fabrics at a few euros per yard |
... or a rosemary tree or watering can.... |
.. or lavender soaps.... |
while inside the nearby design shop, this stunning silver metallic medallions printed onto linen and used as draperies really caught my eye! |
and this rustic lamp with it's rumpled linen shade sits front of that exquisitely printed Manuel Canovas silk |
two more stunning silk fabrics in this Provençal designer's shop in Apt |
after all the browsing, we ended up in this little resto a few miles away from the bustle of Apt |
Come with us to Provence next time... and
thanks for stopping by!... Kit

The Apt and Ile sur la Sorge markets are my absolute favourite in France. Although I've spent hours wandering through the shops and market in Ile sur la Sorge I haven't ventured into the shops in Apt as I've been too busy in the market, but next visit ................
ReplyDeleteWarm regards
Hi Elizabeth you will love Apt and its many treasures.. be sure to go on a Saturday to the market, in existence since the 12th century!

DeleteThank you beaucoup for the photos and a walk down memory lane. Several years ago I was fortunate enough to spend many happy moments boosting the economy in Apt...not to mention Lourmarin, Bonnieux etc. A good friend lives up the hill in picturesque Saignon. A few of my finds were these beautiful little chairs from La Brocante, gorgeous cicada embroidered fabric from the market and goodies from the designer shop you mentioned, if it's the same one I'm thinking of. Loved browsing and shopping in Apt, especially the market (M. Chic Pois et M. Fromage) and then retreating up the hill with fresh market produce to enjoy a sumptuous meal prepared by my talented friend...sigh. (Just wish I had splurged on 'la faience d'Apt ' from the Atelier. ) J'adore et m'ennuie de le Luberon et ma belle France.
ReplyDeleteBonjour Veuvemcd, how very cool that you have shopped these very same spots... as you say boosting the local economy :)... send pix of your little chairs from La Brocante? You must come back with us next spring in the company of like minded wanderers!
Deletea bientôt!
