The Pink Chair & Camellia Snow

I'm happy to see all the pink everywhere again. And this little French Louis.."ahem"..chair from the flea market would look fabulous in some new pink, don't you think? So at the design center, I found these sumptuous Lorca jacquards made in France and Italy, through Osborne & Little. They all work perfectly with the vintage velvet I found at an estate sale the other day...four yards in perfect condition for $5!

Then, while working on this little project, I happened to look outside my studio window...and saw that our rainstorms have created a virtual carpeting of camellias on the soggy ground...gorgeous camellia snow!

Now... I'd love to know what you think: which fabrics, and in what combinations? Or just go with one fabric... which one? Such a delightful dilemma!

big, bountiful roses!

when I paused to look out the window, this
is the beauty I saw in the rain

this incredibly beautiful cotton velvet I bought
the other day at an estate sale in the neighborhood

two different camellia bushes lost their
blossoms in today's storm

I do like this pattern with pansies and
a larger whiter background...

our ground could not get any soggier!

this is a really pretty rose petal pattern, but
my daughter thought it looked like seashells...hmmm?

the side pathway looks like it needs shoveling with a snow shovel..so
beautiful against the dark earth!

Benjamin Moore paints I pulled that would work with
any of these fabric choices...can you spot the one
they have called identical to Pantone's Color of the Year?
(hint: it's in the first column)

I, for one, was really happy
with Pantone's color
choice for 2011... so far
we need a lot of this color
in our weary world

while browsing for additional Lorca fabrics
I found these gorgeous embroidered
linens and velvets on the Interior Library site

Thanks for visiting! Kit

  1. What a great find! I think you will love the pink velvet chair once you are finished with your project. Have fun with it!
    xoxo deborah

  2. The dark pink on the back of the chair and the first flower print on the chair. Please show us when it is finished. It's a beautiful chair.

  3. I like the idea of the pink velvet as upholstery and several blosters made in the print fabrics so you can change them out as you please!

    Happy Weekend!

  4. I agree with Gina, love that first print (though it looks more like peonies to me?!), and the deep rose of the velvet. Could you do some detail on the back of the chair, meaning the back as seen from behind?

  5. I like the first one best.

  6. Love all that color! No matter which one you choose it will be gorgeous. The camellia covered ground outside your house is so lovely. My daughter lives in San Francisco and was telling me about the rain last night. We had it too here in Los Angeles.

  7. Visited your nice blog:)

  8. I love the big floral in the first pic, and the little Louis is divine... I would love to see more of the camelias, Kit, I have added a few to my garden but I can never get enough it seems!

  9. my vote is for the first fabric... wouldn't the pink velvet make amazing drapery in the room beside the chair... just a thought, ;)

  10. or more thoughts... have a pink band of ribbon or velvet sewn to the closing side on the drapery that you already have?

  11. Love love love this post. My vote is for the hot pink velvet on the bottom of the gorgeous arm-chair and the first fabric (I love it) for the top. It would be gorgeous on the opposite too, but the first fabric would be too delicate to sit on it oh so many times. The pics with the camelia flowers on the ground are gorgeous. Love + talk soon

  12. love love loooove first big flowers is soooooo beautiful!!!
    I'm following you now!

    A big hug,

  13. Hi Kit. What a view! Love each fabric..how will you choose. And the spent blossoms...a gorgeous carpet! Very magical! Merci! XO Trish

  14. I think you hit the motherlode with that piece!!!! I loved the Camellia Snow ( I think I will change my name!) But I don't mind the color that is on the chair right now!!!It may not be in as good a shape,,, but all the choices you are considering are gorgeous....And by the way, I really, really need that screen, Can I send a UPS call tag for that?????;)

  16. Love the overblown roses and the pansy fabrics wonder whose they are!

  17. Garden beauties outside a house always fascinate the people around and create a soothing experience. This is the one reason that people are nowadays going with designing and landscaping.

  18. These fabrics look amazing, thanks for sharing.

  19. I love your posts so I nominated you as one of my 15 favourite blogs. You can see more about it at my blog www.cassmob.wordpress.com. However as the "requirement" to nominate another 15 bloggers is onerous I don't expect you will necessarily want to do this. I just wanted to share your great site with some new readers. Pauleen
